Carmel-Walnut Brownies

MyCookbook Recipe Database
MyCookbook Member: eve
Recipe Category: Dessert
Recipe Preparation Level: easy
    15 brownies

    1 (14-oz.pkg.)caramels
    2/3 cup evaporated milk, divided
    1(18.25oz pkg.)carmel-flavored cake mix*
    3/4 cup butter, melted
    2 t vanilla extract
    1/4 t ground cinnamon
1 1/2c walnut halves or pieces

*substitute devil's food cake mix for the caramel mix, if desired. Omit the cinnamon, and bake for 30 minutes instead of 25 minutes in Step 5
1.Preheat the oven to 350F. Unwrap the caramels and place in a medium saucepan. Add 1/3 cup evaporated milk; cook over low heat until caramels melt, stirring often. Remove from heat and set aside. (I use the microwave. Check your micro cookbook for melting choc.-low heat, stir often).

2.Combine remaining 1/3 cup of evaporated milk, the dry cake mix, and the nest 3 ingredients; stir just until blended. Spread half of the dough into a lightly greased 9" square pan. Chill the remaining dough. Bake @ 350F for 10 minutes. Cool in pan on wire rack 5 minutes.

3.Pour warm caramel mixture over brownie layer in pan. Sprinkle with walnuts.

4.Spoon remaining half of dough into 9 equal portions on wax paper. Pat each portion into a 3"
circle. Place the circles over the walnuts in pan, overlapping slightly. Dough will spread while baking.

5.Bake @ 350F for 25 minutes. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Cover and chill throughly before cutting.
