3/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 3/4 flour
Cream shortening and sugar" blend in peanut butter, salt egg, vanilla and flour. Shape into balls about 1" in diameter. Make a deep "well" in center of each with the thumb. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350° 12-15 minutes. Cool on racks. Fill centers with tart jelly, such as red currant. Makes about three dozen.
