Panettone French Toast

11/2 cups packed brown sugar
3/4 cup butter (11/2 sticks)
2 Tbs. corn syrup
2 pears, thinly sliced
1 large loaf panettone, cut into thick slices
3 cups milk
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
2 Tbs peach schnapps (optional)
combine brown sugar, butter and corn syrup in a glass bowl. Microwave until the butter is melted, stirring every 30 seconds. Pour butter mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange the pear slices over the butter mixture. Place the bread slices over the pear layer. Combine the eggs, milk and cream in a bowl and beat until blended. Beat in the peach schnapps. Pour over the bread layer. Chill, covered with plastic wrap for 4 hours to overnight. Bake at 350 degrees for 55 minutes or until bread is puffed and golden. Serve immediately.
