Kentucky Hot Brown (Sandwich)

    Kentucky Hot Brown
    Serves 2

    2 slices white bread, toasted
    2 slices turkey breast
    2 slices boiled or country ham
    1 cup prepared white sauce (recipe follows)
    1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
    4 slices bacon, cooked crisp
    2 slices ripe tomato

    Using two oven-proof dishes, layer the ingredients in the order given,
    using half of each ingredient for each serving. (Criss-cross the
    bacon and place the tomato in the middle.) Place in a 375F oven and
    heat until cheese and sauce are melted and bubbling. Serve

    White Sauce
    4 T. butter
    4 T. flour
    1 cup cream or half-n-half
    salt and pepper to taste

    In a 1 qt. saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the
    flour until well combined; cook 1-2 minutes or until bubbly. Add cold
    cream or half-n-half; increase temperature to medium hi. Whisk
    constantly until the mixture boils and thickens. Remove from heat;
    add salt and pepper to taste.
