Ham filled gratin of potatoes

2 3/4 pounds new red potatoes sliced 1/4 inch thick
3 cups coarsely chopped ham
1 egg
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1/2 pound ground chicken
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup half and half
White Sauce:
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly oil a 13x9x2 glass baking dish
Bring large pot of salted water to boil and add potatoes. Cook for approx. 2 minutes. Drain and set aside
Mix ham, egg, butter, salt and pepper in processor. Combine well; add chicken mild and half and half and continue to process until smooth.
arrange half of the potatoes to cover bottom of pan. Evenly spread ham mixture over potatoes, then top with remaining potatoes.
Make white sauce by melting butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Whisk in 1 cup of milk and cook until smooth. When sauce begins to thicken add remaining cup of milk, salt and pepper. Cook, stiring occasionaly for another 4 to 5 minutes until thickened and bubbly.
Pour white sauce over potatoes and top with parmesan cheese. Bake for 45 minutes until browned. Let stand for 15 minutes.
