Easy Dill Pickles

    4 lbs pickling cukes.
    1 large head dill
    6-8 large cloves garlic sliced
    2 tbls. mustard seed (optional)
    1 tsp. alum (optional, available at pharmacy)
    1 tsp or 2-3 hot peppers

    Brine:
    8 cups water
    2 cups white vinegar
    1/2 cup pickling salt

    Put first set of ingredients into a clean quart jar. Boil brine ingredients. Cool, pour into jar with other ingredients.Keep lid loose, invert every day, keep in cool spot. After 3 weeks, strain brine, put pickles in quart size jars for easier keeping with brine in refrigerator.
    Will keep at least 6 months.
