1kg (2lb) blade steak (or stewing steak)
1 tsp black mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp ground coriander
2 tsp curry powder
1 tsp grated ginger
2 cloves crushed garlic
3 tsp vindaloo paste
1 1/2 tbls brown vinegar
1 tbls oil
1 tbls oil, extra
1 med onions, sliced
410g (10-11oz) can tomatoes
425g (10-11oz) can tomato puree
Cube steak. Heat both seeds in dry pan, stirring until they pop, taking care not to burn; cool. Combine seeds, steak, coriander, curry powder, ginger, garlic, paste, vinegar and oil in bowl, mix well; cover refrigerate overnight.
Heat extra oil in pan, add onions, cook, stirring, until soft. Add steak mixture, cook, stirring, 10 mins. Stir in undrained crushed tomatoes and puree, simmer, covered, about 50mins or until steak is tender.
